MS Amlin looks to BoE and Lloyd's for new CRO & chief actuary
Lloyd’s re/insurer MS Amlin Underwriting (MS AUL) has appointed Vishal Desai as new chief risk officer (CRO) and Catherine Scullion as chief actuary.
Desai will join MS AUL in May and will replace Giles Holland, who is leaving the business to pursue other opportunities after a transition period.
Desai has over 18 years’ general insurance industry experience gained at UBS, PwC and Hiscox, both in the UK and internationally.
He joins MS AUL from the Bank of England (BoE) where he holds the role of acting head of division general insurance risk specialists & chief actuary. He is a member of the senior leadership team, holding the specific risk and actuarial responsibility for London Market (including Lloyd’s of London) retail and groups firm supervision. He has also led review work across both wholesale and retail general insurance businesses across risk management, reserving, capital and underwriting.
Scullion will take up the newly created role of chief actuary in April, reporting to Phil Green, CFO of MS AUL.
She joins from Lloyd’s of London, where she has worked since 2015 and held the position of head of capital since 2018. Scullion, who helped to establish Lloyd’s Brussels during her secondment to Lloyd’s Brexit Programme in 2017, will be a key member of the MS AUL finance leadership team.
Johan Slabbert, CEO of MS Amlin Underwriting, said: “I am delighted to announce these two senior appointments, both of which will support our business transformation and strengthen our core leadership teams. Both Vishal and Catherine bring a depth of sector, risk and actuarial expertise that will immediately contribute to our strategic ambitions. We are delighted to attract such diverse senior talent, and underpins our aspirations as a prestigious underwriting business, with a London market presence worthy of our heritage and potential.”
“I would like to take this opportunity to thank Giles for his hard work and commitment to the business over the past 20 years. We wish him the very best in the future,” he added.
