In early September, +Simple, a European digital insurance distribution platform for small businesses, and GMBC, a tech-enabled master managing general agent (MGA) and reinsurance platform, unveiled a strategic merger, which they claim will accelerate their growth in what they call a buoyant European MGA market.
In fact, it could mean a whole lot more than that. The key executives in the venture describe it as the first pan-European platform to access small and medium-sized enterprise (SME) niche business in a transparent, scalable, and operationally solid manner. They might be right. One partner had solved a problem from a “downstream” approach, the other from “upstream”. They appear now to have met in the middle.
