McGill and Partners expands treaty, fac reinsurance with swathe of hires
McGill and Partners, a specialist boutique insurance broker, has made a series of hires in its treaty and facultative reinsurance teams as part of its growth strategy in a hardening market.
Angus Milgate, formerly head of UK and Ireland for Aon’s reinsurance division, will join McGill and Partners as head of treaty reinsurance in September. Milgate has 33 years’ experience in a variety of broking leadership roles in both London and Asia.
The newly established facultative unit is led by Paul Summers, who joined as head of global facultative reinsurance. He previously led global facultative reinsurance businesses at both Guy Carpenter and Aon over the preceding 10 years.
The company has hired 22 specialists across the treaty and fac reinsurance teams in the last six months as part of its talent acquisition strategy to meet growing demand for placement of complex risk in a hardening market.
Other recent senior hires in the treaty team include Simon Coles, who recently joined as a partner with multi-class experience including property, motor and specialty; Stewart Smith, who joined as a partner specialising in casualty; Dan Bailey, who will join as a partner with a focus on retro and ILW with both traditional and capital markets; and Bob Mellor, who will join as a partner with a focus on property.
John Lloyd, chairman of McGill and Partners, said: “It is testament to the bold ambitions of McGill and Partners that we have secured such an impressive roster of talent in our Reinsurance team. The market is in a phase of transition, and the last few months have made the case for an innovative approach to placing complex risks. With Paul and Angus at the helm of Facultative and Treaty respectively, the Reinsurance team is well-placed to continue to grow and take on new clients as we move into the last quarter of 2020 and into 2021.”
