Marsh & McLennan hires FEMA deputy administrator as public sector leader

Daniel Kaniewski, most recently deputy administrator for resilience at the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA), has joined Marsh & McLennan Advantage as managing director, public sector.

The Marsh & McLennan Advantage group brings together expertise from across the company’s four businesses to deliver innovative solutions to clients.

In his new role, Kaniewski will leverage his 20 years of public policy and risk management experience to inform and support enterprise-wide initiatives to respond to emerging risks facing the public sector.

As FEMA’s second ranking official, he spearheaded the agency’s disaster resilience efforts, including insurance, hazard mitigation and preparedness programmes. Prior to his role at FEMA, he led the global resilience practice at catastrophe risk modeling firm AIR Worldwide, and served in the White House as Special Assistant to President George W. Bush for Homeland Security.

“Dan’s experience developing innovative solutions to public sector challenges builds on our government expertise and further positions Marsh & McLennan as a leader in this space,” said Greg Sinnott, executive director, Marsh & McLennan Advantage.

Kaniewski commented: “I’m delighted to join a world class organisation where I can continue to contribute to the public good by collaborating with public and private sector leaders. Governments, industry and society as a whole benefit from risk-informed decisions and comprehensive risk management strategies.”
