Markel taps insider to spearhead growth within livestock market

Specialist insurer  Markel International is looking to spearhead further growth within the livestock market with the appointment of a new underwriter.

As livestock underwriter, Ruth Gordon (pictured) will be responsible for growing and developing the livestock portfolio of business, reporting to Robert Wells, senior underwriter of global livestock at Markel International.

Gordon has worked in Markel’s equine and livestock claims team for six years. During this time, she has built up a breadth of experience and forged relationships with many of the organisation’s business partners.

Before joining Markel International, Gordon worked at Allianz Insurance for over seven years, starting as an equine customer services agent, before progressing to the role of small animal claims team leader, which she held for two years.

“We are pleased to have Ruth onboard,” said Wells. “With her experience and expertise in claims, she will bring a new perspective to the underwriting team, while playing an important role in helping to develop Markel International’s livestock account in the coming months and years.”

He added: “Ruth has a passion for environmental, social, and governance (ESG), which will be crucial as we look into ways to commercially incorporate the ESG principles. We feel that these are important so we can approach ESG with a long-term and sustainable view.”
