Markel snags 15-year Chubb vet for senior retail business role

Specialist insurer  Markel Corporation has hired a former Chubb leader to oversee its national business development focussing on retail, particularly with strategic and national partners.

Chris Belvedere has joined Markel as senior director, retail business development.

Belvedere joins from Sompo International, where he most recently served as vice president, regional underwriting executive, metro region - Global Risk Solutions. Prior to that, he spent almost 15 years at Chubb in a variety of regional leadership roles, managing retail relationships, product management, and developing and executing strategies to achieve financial plans for product lines.

In his new role, Belvedere will report to Glenn Harris, managing executive, distribution strategies and business development and be based out of New York.

Harris said: "Chris's experience and long-standing relationships in the retail space make him the ideal person for this important role. Chris will work closely with our regional underwriting and business development teams and our product line leaders to continue to provide solutions to insureds through our key retail partners. We couldn't be more excited to have Chris on our team."
