Markel underwriting director to step down from top executive role
Jeremy Brazil, who has overseen Markel International’s underwriting for nearly ten years, is stepping down from his executive role at the end of the year.
Thereafter he will provide consultancy advice to the company's board and the senior management team, the specialist insurer announced in a statement.
Nick Line, chief actuary, will take on the responsibility for oversight of Markel International’s underwriting functions.
Stuart Lee, currently head of reserving, will become the head of actuarial and, with Julien Masselot, head of capital, David Mowat, head of pricing and Andrew Green, head of catastrophe management, will form the new actuarial leadership team.
Brazil was appointed as the director of underwriting in 2008. He was also responsible for the company's re-insurance buying strategy and is credited for his role in the creation of Markel International following its acquisition of Terra Nova in 2000.
William Stovin, president of Markel International, said: "Jeremy has contributed hugely to the success of Markel International since the acquisition of Terra Nova in 2000. He’s been a great colleague and we are all pleased that, as a consultant to the company, we will continue to be able to benefit from his experience and expertise. He goes with our thanks and best wishes."
