Markel poaches Everest Canada CEO
Specialist insurer Markel International has appointed David Crozier to be president of its Canada business that includes offices in Toronto, Montreal, Calgary and Vancouver.
Crozier joins Markel from Everest Insurance Company of Canada, where he was president and chief executive officer, having previously been senior vice president, operations, for Economical Mutual Insurance Company. Prior to that, he held a number of positions at Chubb Insurance Company of Canada, latterly as vice president, Prairies.
Crozier will replace Karen Barkley who is retiring.
Crozier will take up his position at the beginning of 2019 and is expected to join the company in the middle of this year. Reporting to Simon Wilson, managing director, national markets, Crozier will be responsible for the strategic direction and development of Markel’s Canadian business.
Wilson said: “David will develop Markel’s position in Canada as the go to name for specialty insurance, building on the great foundations established by Karen, and opening up the Markel global product portfolio to the Canadian market.”
William Stovin, president, Markel International, added: “Over the last five years, Karen has delivered a number of key achievements supporting the future of our business. As well as overseeing impressive growth, she has turned the former Elliott Special Risks from an MGA into a fully- fledged insurance company and built a strong and effective team around her, who will feature in our continued success. She leaves with our thanks and our best wishes.”
