Markel plucks Swiss Re casualty & financial leader for top Asia role

Specialist insurer  Markel International plucked a casualty and financial lines leader from Swiss Re to head up its full underwriting effort across its Asia Pacific operations.

Kevin Leung (pictured) steps in as chief underwriting officer for Markel’s APAC operations to lead the underwriting strategy and growth for the region from Singapore.

Leung joins from Swiss Re where he was most recently head of casualty and financial lines for APAC among other leadership roles. Prior to that, Leung held senior underwriting positions at several insurance carriers including Catlin, ACE Group and AIG.

The managing director of Markel’s International division in Asia Pacific Christian Stobbs commented: “This appointment is the next step on our journey to empower and develop our underwriting team in Asia. Our aim is to provide the best specialist underwriting capabilities to businesses in Asia Pacific. With Kevin’s deep understanding and experience of the region, I’ve no doubt our teams and clients will benefit, elevating Markel to new heights of excellence in underwriting and beyond.”
