Markel looks to expand renewable energy offering with specialist hire
Specialist insurer Markel International looks to further strengthen its renewable energy offering and diversify its expertise with risk engineering, following key offshore wind appointments in 2022.
The insurer has expanded its renewable energy team with the appointment of Jan Pagan as a specialist risk control engineer.
As businesses manage the transition towards net-zero, Pagan will work closely with Markel’s underwriting and claims teams to provide risk mitigation advice and engineering services to a growing roster of global renewable energy clients.
Pagan is a trained structural design engineer specialising in turbine components and has more than 10 years of experience in the renewable energy industry. He joins from Matthews Daniel, where he led the renewable energy services team and provided consulting and adjusting services to clients across the sector. Pagan also spent four years working at EDF Energy as an on and offshore wind mechanical engineer. During his time at the energy company, he focused on implementing operation and maintenance procedures, as well as making use of new technology to reduce operational costs.
Pagan will be based at Markel’s London office, reporting to Tom Baker, head of renewable energy at Markel International.
Baker commented: “Helping our clients navigate the risks and rewards of the energy transition is a huge privilege and responsibility, and so I’m delighted to welcome Jan to our team. His significant industry experience will improve our ability to provide clients an enhanced value proposition, with specialist risk mitigation advice, reiterating our leadership capabilities in the renewables market. I am looking forward to seeing the impact that Jan will have on the business and on the clients that we serve.”
