Markel appoints MD of Swedish business
Specialist insurer Markel has appointed Torgny Johansson as managing director of its Swedish business. Based in Stockholm, Torgny will be responsible for driving Markel’s development across the Scandinavian region. After an earlier career at McKinsey, Torgny has nine years’ experience in the insurance industry. He was previously at Swedish insurance group Trygg Hansa, where he held a number of senior positions, most recently as head of its affinity groups business. Prior to this, Torgny had five years at If, a Nordic property and casualty business, where he served in both the actuarial and underwriting areas of the business, latterly as head of the commercial property product area. Simon Wilson, managing director of Markel International’s national markets business, said: “Torgny will lead the development of our business from its Swedish foundations to a broader positioning across the Scandinavian region. As well as expanding our footprint, he’ll be looking at further developing our broker sales and marketing capabilities as well as developing additional distribution mechanisms. “He is highly commercial, with very strong analytical skills and we look forward to his contribution to the success of our Scandinavian business.”
