Markel appoints director for US trade credit and political risk operation

Markel Corporation has appointed Arjan Van de Wall as director of development, Americas, in its trade credit and political risk operation in the US.

Van de Wall will report to Philip Amlot, head of the trade credit and political risk team, headquartered in New York.

In his role, Van de Wall will assist with business growth across the US, Canada and Latin America, developing strategic broker relationships, targeting large customer opportunities and broadening the product range.

Van de Wall has over 26 years of experience in the trade credit industry. He held a number of senior posts at Euler Hermes Group, where latterly he was senior vice president (SVP) and commercial director of the Euler Hermes North American operation. Prior to that he was SVP and regional director of world agency, Americas, and spent two years as CEO of Euler Hermes Canada.

“Arjan has a wealth of experience in the trade credit industry and over 20 years working in the US marketplace, which will be a huge asset to our organisation and to the continued development of our business across North and South America,“ said Amlot.

Ewa Rose, managing director of Markel’s trade credit and political risk business, added: “Arjan will be actively involved in further developing our broker and client relationships. He will help to shape our offering across the Americas and we are delighted to have someone with his outstanding reputation in the trade credit market join the team.”
