London market veterans Masojada and Langley elected as sheriffs
Former Hiscox CEO and London market veteran Bronek Masojada and Gallagher UK’s Dame Susan Langley have been elected as the next sheriffs of the City of London.
The duo will assume their new roles in September for a tenure of one year. They take over from Alderman Alastair King and Andrew Marsden.
In their new role, Masojada and Langley will support the Lord Mayor in civic responsibilities and serve as ambassadors for the UK’s financial and professional services industry. Masojada and Langley will also advocate for the Judges of the Old Bailey and the rule of law.
The office of Sheriff, a prerequisite to becoming Lord Mayor of the City of London, is one of the oldest in existence and dates back to the Middle Ages.
Masojada is an insurance market veteran with over 30 years’ leadership experience in the insurance industry. He retired as chief executive of Hiscox in 2021, where he had an impressive career trajectory. Prior to joining Hiscox, he worked at McKinsey & Company.
Currently, Masojada serves as chair of Placing Platform, the industry utility driving digitisation of the London Insurance Market, chairman of specialty re/insurer SiriusPoint, and has recently joined broker Brown & Brown’s board of directors.
Langley is the non-executive UK chair of Gallagher, and senior independent director of UKAR. She has held several senior roles in the London market, including executive director North America and market development for Lloyd's of London, director of Lloyd’s Asia, and chairman of Lloyd’s Japan.
Langley said: “Being Sheriff is a huge opportunity to support the City of London’s residents and businesses and ensure it’s open and accessible for all.
“I’m looking forward to working with our partners to ensure the Square Mile remains not only the world’s leading financial hub, but also a sustainable City with social mobility at its core.”
Masojada said: “I believe that a strong City, with good regulation and a sound legal system, is critical to the success of its residents, workers, and businesses.
“As Sheriff I will promote our City effectively – both at home and abroad – and help enhance the vibrancy of the Square Mile by supporting our Destination City ambitions and promoting the City as a place for the ambitious and talented.”
