Lockton poaches Willis P&C co-head to lead global marine business
Insurance broker Lockton International has hired Alistair Rivers as global head of marine and transportation.
Rivers was previously chief executive of Willis’ marine operations, before also being made responsible for the firm’s energy business in 2008. He then became co-head of global specialties London and head of global natural resources at Willis. More recently, he was elevated to co-head of global property & casualty (P&C) for the group, which included leadership of the P&C UK business.
Rivers will head up a newly developed marine and transportation business group, according to the statement. This included the hiring of five new team members all from companies with a major marine presence, and the acquisition of PL Ferrari and minority stakes in LCH (Singapore) and Integra (Turkey).
Rivers will oversee the continuing expansion of the specialist marine team globally.
Neil Nimmo, CEO of Lockton International, said: "We are building a powerful global marine infrastructure that will supercharge local capabilities and deliver global market agility for our clients. To do that, we need a strong leader with great knowledge of the sector – and we have found that in Alistair. We’re delighted to have him aboard and are excited to see what he and his team will do.
"The vision for the new marine and transportation group was clear: we wanted to develop global resources and skills to be able to provide solutions supported by a global service offering. We think we have achieved this - our marine platform now includes the best experts in the key markets across the world."
Rivers commented: "We have a window of opportunity to establish a working global model for the marine specialism at Lockton that delivers more for clients and for our people. Lockton are a relatively new force in this market and I see us as the step change from a 20th century way of thinking to a modern 21st century outlook, utilizing new technologies and driving a modern approach to insurance in the marine and transport industries. I’m very excited to take on this challenge and build our global proposition."
