Lloyd’s picks Aon’s global climate strategy leader to join Council
Insurance and reinsurance marketplace Lloyd’s of London has picked a top Aon executive to replace Dominic Christian on its Council. Christian will be stepping down on January 31, 2023 after nine years of service.
Richard Dudley (Pictured) has been elected as a working member of the Council of Lloyd’s.
Dudley, global head of climate strategy at Aon, has been working in the Lloyd’s market for nearly thirty years and currently sits on Lloyd’s Technology & Transformation Advisory Committee. He is also an Executive Action Committee member on the Insurance Taskforce of the Sustainable Markets Initiative.
Prior to taking up the role as head of climate strategy, Dudley was CEO of Aon’s Global Broking Centre and CEO of the UK and Ireland Specialties division of Aon Reinsurance.
The Council of Lloyd’s comprises 15 members split between six elected members (three working and three external), three executives (CEO, CFO, chief of markets) and six nominated members.
Bruce Carnegie-Brown, Lloyd’s Chairman, said: “I’m hugely grateful for all Dom’s hard work over the last nine years. He leaves the Council having achieved tangible progress, particularly on the cultural transformation of the Lloyd’s market and our climate leadership through the Sustainable Markets Initiative Insurance Taskforce.
“I’m delighted to welcome Richard as a new member. Richard’s election is testament to the extraordinary contribution he has made to advancing the insurance industry’s aims. As we continue to build a sustainable and inclusive Lloyd’s, Richard will play a vital role in helping us live out our purpose.”
Dudley said: “It is an incredible honour to join the Council of Lloyd’s. For our market, the opportunities to grow and to further stamp our collective societal value are as apparent and important now as they have ever been. In this role, I’m determined to help support Lloyd’s build on its work to become the insurer of the transition to a net zero economy, and to help drive a successful conclusion to market modernisation. I’m excited to get started and thank the members for their faith in electing me.”
