Liberty Specialty Markets’ global financial risk leader exits after 11 year
Liberty Specialty Markets (LSM), part of Liberty Mutual Insurance Group, has revealed a new global head of financial risk solutions from within to take over from Peter Sprent, who is leaving LSM after 11 years.
Huw Owen (Pictured) has assumed the role of global head of financial risk solutions with immediate effect. Based in London, he reports to Rachel Conran, chief underwriting officer of LSM.
In his new role, Owen will be responsible for the strategic development of the global FRS team. He will work closely with clients and brokers to deliver LSM’s tailor-made underwriting solutions to global corporate and financial institutions. He takes over from Peter Sprent, who has served at LSM for 11 years and is leaving to pursue personal interests. Owen will work closely with Sprent to ensure a smooth transition before his departure in late March.
Owen joined LSM in 2012 as head of London Markets for FRS and has since held a number of roles within the team, most recently as FRS chief underwriting officer. Prior to joining LSM, Owen was senior underwriter at Zurich Financial Services, and served as class underwriter of war and political risk at Catlin. He brings more than 20 years of industry experience to the role.
“I am very pleased to be appointed Global Head of FRS,” said Owen. “We will continue to prioritise providing tailored credit and political risk solutions to meet the varied risk distribution needs of our clients and brokers. And focus on a high-performance culture, underwriting expertise and data-driven decision making and portfolio management. I look forward to working across our global network to grow our business offering.”
Conran commented: “We’re thrilled to announce Huw’s promotion. He has been instrumental in developing LSM’s growing product capabilities over the past 11 years to the global player it is today. Peter has our deep gratitude for his role in building the FRS business and we wish him the very best for his future.”
