Leadership reshuffle at Swiss Re China as president steps down

Global reinsurer  Swiss Re has revealed that its China president John Chen is leaving after five years to pursue other interests outside the company.

Chen is the president of Swiss Re China and general manager of its Beijing branch. He joined Swiss Re in June 2016, and was instrumental in expanding Swiss Re's business and building up the team in China.

With his departure, Brian Han, deputy head of Swiss Re China, will take on the interim leadership role for China.

Han joined Swiss Re in July 2020 and was appointed deputy general manager of the Beijing Branch in March 2021. He has since been responsible for strategy execution and operations in China. He also leads the P&C Solutions business in the market and drives collaboration across the business.

Swiss Re said it expects to name a permanent replacement after receiving all regulatory approvals in the coming months.

Russell Higginbotham (pictured), chief executive officer (CEO) reinsurance Asia at Swiss Re, said: “I would like to take this opportunity to express my gratitude to John for his dedication and contribution. I wish John all the best in his retirement.

Swiss Re remains committed to investing in China's long-term future and being part of this dynamic high growth market. We are steadfast in our commitment to serve our clients through our knowledge and expertise, and actively support our clients in making the world more resilient.”
