Industry trade associations sponsor new Insurance Director Boot Camp
The American Property Casualty Insurance Association (APCIA), International Insurance Society (IIS), and both the Tobin College of Business and the Maurice R. Greenberg School of Risk Management, Insurance and Actuarial Science (SRM) of St. John’s University are to sponsor the Insurance Director Boot Camp, an intense three-day program of director education focused on property/casualty insurers. It will be held on the Manhattan campus of St. John’s University from May 19-21, 2020.
“Our member CEOs have repeatedly pointed out the need for more high-quality specialised training for directors on the unique aspects and technical issues related to property/casualty insurance,” said David Sampson, president and CEO of industry trade organisation APCIA. “By educating directors on the fundamentals of how insurers operate and the key financial, regulatory, and operational issues that are specific to the industry, we are promoting both enhanced corporate governance and service to consumers through more informed board oversight. Our members are very excited about this innovative program.”
Michael Morrissey, president and CEO of the International Insurance Society, added: “The property/casualty insurance industry is truly global, as US insurers and internationally domiciled insurers compete and face similar challenges in their chosen markets. As a thought leader in promoting innovative solutions and sustainable business practices, director education is critical to operational excellence and policyholder satisfaction. We anticipate great interest in the Insurance Director Boot Camp from our members.”
The Insurance Director Boot Camp will feature 25 distinct sessions, each consisting of either a presentation or panel discussion from recognised industry experts, many of whom currently serve as directors of property/casualty insurers. Timely topics will be addressed including the adequacy of casualty loss reserves; property catastrophe modelling; understanding regulation; benchmarking operating costs; cybersecurity; and diversity and inclusion.
Herb Chain, executive director of the Center for Executive Education at the Peter J. Tobin College of Business, said: “St. John’s has a well-deserved reputation as a leader in insurance education for students, insurance professionals and executives. Insurance Director Boot Camp expands our reach to serve the directors of property/casualty insurers, filling a void in the market”.
Mark Browne, faculty chair of the Maurice R. Greenberg School of Risk Management, Insurance and Actuarial Science at St. John’s University, added: “We are excited about the partnership with the industry trade associations to bring together our world-class professors with respected industry thought leaders and experienced directors. The value of their collaboration will be evident in the program content.”
G58 Advisors, a division of G58 Capital LLC, is the organiser and presenter of Insurance Director Boot Camp. Its founder, Stan Galanski, is a member of the Executive Committee of the Board of Overseers of the Maurice R. Greenberg School of Risk Management, Insurance and Actuarial Science and a former member of the Board of Directors of APCIA.
