Hiscox appoints new US CUO following departure
Specialist insurer Hiscox has appointed Eric Micheals as chief underwriting officer in the US. He replaces Nicole Goodwin, who is retiring.
Micheals, a Hiscox partner, is based in New York and will report to Ben Walter, chief executive officer for Hiscox in the US.
Micheals will lead the underwriting strategy and execution across Hiscox’s portfolio of specialty risk solutions in the US, including a broad spectrum of professional errors & omissions, general liability, cyber and data security, media liability, management liability, crime, kidnap & ransom, terrorism and commercial property insurance products.
Walter said: “During his tenure at Hiscox, Eric has demonstrated leadership, courage and a relentless focus on high-quality underwriting and excellence in execution. Eric’s experience and commitment to driving innovation at Hiscox will be instrumental in expanding one of our fastest growing business units.”
Micheals has been with Hiscox for eight years and was the lead underwriter in establishing Hiscox’s Direct and Partnerships division in the US. He later served as senior vice president for the Hiscox Underwriting Center (HUC), where he led an underwriting team while simultaneously handling the renewal business and managing a number of the firm’s small business accounts.
Most recently, Micheals served as senior vice president, head of emerging solutions, where he worked with Hiscox’s distribution heads to identify and capitalize on new distribution and insurance technology opportunities.
Prior to joining Hiscox, Micheals was a vice president at American International Group (AIG).
