HDI Global seeks African expansion with new managing director from AIG
Industrial lines insurer HDI Global SA has appointed AIG's Shaun Scandling as new managing director, succeeding Kurt Müller who is stepping down at the end of June.
HDI Global SA is the South African subsidiary of German industrial insurer HDI Global SE. It covers all major lines of business in industrial insurance, including property, liability, engineering insurance and marine insurance.
Scandling joins HDI from AIG where he was a member of the executive committee of AIG South Africa and in various roles since the year 2009. In 2014, he was appointed as specialty leader, which included aviation, marine and SME (small commercial). In July 2017, he was appointed as head of property and special risks which incorporated the specialty lines and commercial property (large corporate and corporate).
“I am very delighted that Shaun will succeed Kurt in running our South African operations. Shaun combines strong insurance industry knowledge with proven operational skills. This will be important to us as we focus on delivering our strategic growth targets in South Africa in this new decade,” said Jens Wohlthat, Chairman of the board of directors of HDI Global SA and member of the management board of HDI Global SE.
“We would like to wish Kurt all the best for the future and thank him very much for his years of great service and exceptionally successful work in the company," he added.
Scandling commented: “I am delighted to be joining HDI as Managing Director for South Africa. HDI has had a rich association with industrial insurance since its inception in the year 1903. I am looking forward to being part of HDI Global’s leadership team and expanding its footprint in the African markets.”
