GFIA picks new president and shuffles executive committee
The Global Federation of Insurance Associations (GFIA) has reshuffled its executive committee and appointed a new president to inject fresh momentum into exploring global insurance issues including protection gaps in 2023.
Susan Neely (Pictured), who is president and CEO of the American Council of Life Insurers, will take over as the new president of GFIA from Don Forgeron, president and CEO of the Insurance Bureau of Canada.
Tim Grafton, chief executive of the Insurance Council of New Zealand, will take over Neely’s previous role as vice president.
Additionally, Norma Alicia Rosas, director general of Associaciòn Mexicana de Instituciones de Seguros, which is a member of Federaciòn Interamericana de Empresas de Seguros, will take over from Grafton as membership executive.
Neely said: “Insurers make important contributions to societies and economies around the world through the protection they provide and the investments they make. Together through GFIA, we will advance solutions to the risk protection challenges countries face and work with global policymakers and standard setters who seek ways to help their people thrive.
“I am honoured to be elected president of GFIA and look forward to building upon Don Forgeron’s success in leading the organisation for the past two years. Don and other leaders have significantly enhanced GFIA’s mission to present a unified voice on global insurance issues. We will leverage this momentum in 2023 with a study exploring protection gaps and develop policy recommendations based on its findings.”
