General Motors enters auto insurance market with OnStar
General Motors is looking to "transform" the auto insurance industry with the launch of its OnStar Insurance Services.
The new insurance agency intends to provide a "secure, fair, personalised and easy-to-use" digital insurance experience for drivers, GM said.
OnStar Insurance Services will launch sometime in Q4 of this year and will be initially available for GM customers, later expanding to the general public in early 2021.
GM noted that OnStar will offer plans that take "biased judgement out of insurance shopping", by focusing on factors within the customer’s control, such as individual vehicle usage and rewarding smart driving habits that benefit road safety.
Andrew Rose, president of OnStar Insurance Services, said: “OnStar Insurance will promote safety, security and peace of mind. We aim to be an industry leader, offering insurance in an innovative way."
"GM customers who have subscribed to OnStar and connected services will be eligible to receive discounts, while also receiving fully-integrated services from OnStar Insurance Services,” he added.
