Garex war marine & Tokio Marine leader will take helm of IUMI lobby

A lead officer of French war marine specialist underwriter Garex will join with an industry leader from  Tokio Marine to stand for the top posts in the industry’s lobby group the International Union of Marine Insurance (IUMI).

Garex managing director Frédéric Denèfle was named by the lobby group’s nominating committee to replace current IUMI chair Richard Turner, when he steps down September 21 after a four-year term.

Kosuke Hashimoto, currently general manager of marine underwriting at a Tokio Marine unit, has been nominated for the newly crafted role of IUMI vice president.

Both Hashimoto and Denèfle are long-standing insiders to the lobby organization.

Denèfle has served on the executive committee since 2018 and was previously the legal and liability technical committee chair from 2015. He has likewise held posts in the French Insurance Federation (FFA) and has been a regular participant of the French Maritime Law Association (Association Francaise Du Droit Maritime).

Hashimoto is also a current member of the IUMI executive committee.

Professionally, Denèfle worked at AGF MAT/Allianz Group from 1998 to 2012 before moving to the Garex post in 2013.
