Gallagher swoops on rival WTW for top risk engineering role
Global re/insurance broker Gallagher has swooped on rival WTW to lead the strategic development and expansion of its risk engineering services.
Paul Watson (pictured) joins Gallagher as risk engineering partner from Willis Towers Watson, where he was associate director of risk engineering.
Watson has over 22 years’ experience working in insurance and the power and utilities sectors. Prior to joining Gallagher he supported global clients across industries including conventional power, onshore and offshore renewables, construction and property.
In his newly created role, Watson will bring his experience in energy, power and renewables to support the expansion of Gallagher Specialty’s in-house risk engineering capabilities across practice areas including energy, construction and property & casualty.
Watson will also work closely with third-party risk engineers, which currently partner with Gallagher Specialty. He will additionally be responsible for joining forces with Gallagher offices globally in order to further develop the company’s overall risk engineering services at scale.
Watson will report into Julian Raven, CEO of Gallagher Specialty’s energy, power and renewables practice, who said: “Paul brings a great deal of industry experience to the business, having specialised in energy, power and renewables for a number of years, and will play a key role in expanding our risk engineering capabilities.
“This will enable us to provide our clients with best in class support and risk management services, whilst also strengthening Gallagher’s global risk engineering services. Paul is a brilliant addition to the team and I look forward to working with him on our strategy to amplify our capabilities and deliver an even better service to clients.”
Watson commented: “I’m delighted to join Gallagher and look forward to developing its in-house risk engineering capabilities. Gallagher Specialty’s clients face complex risks and there is an opportunity to provide greater value to them by offering enhanced capabilities within risk management.”
