Fusion Specialty lifts two to new lead roles to zero in on global growth
Fusion Specialty, a specialty insurance MGA focused on the small and medium-sized (SME) business market, lifted insiders to newly crafted CEO roles it designed to power its M&A, financial and specialty lines to global scale.
Michael Federer (pictured right) becomes CEO, Fusion Specialty North America after a tenure as managing partner for sales and distribution for M&A. He brings a career split between M&A insurance underwriting and M&A deals as a corporate attorney.
Katherine Simmonds (pictured left) rises to be CEO, Fusion Specialty, International with a mandate to grow the business in the UK, APAC and EMEA, including in financial lines, M&A and other specialist lines. She joined Fusion Specialty as recently as 2021 and, as managing partner, led growth in the M&A insurance markets across Australia, New Zealand and Asia. She’s a graduate of global brokers Gallagher and WTW plus stints with insurers Ironshore and AIG.
Fusion Specialty’s group co-CEO and co-founder David Rogers commented: “We are delighted with these promotions, and with Katie’s and Michael’s outstanding leadership of two very capable teams. Their ongoing contributions will be significant in realizing Fusion’s vision of pioneering the concept of MGA 3.0, combining a global infrastructure of licensed MGAs with local teams of experts. With tech at the core, we are empowering better underwriting, innovative products, partnership distribution and sustainable insurance.”
The other half of that CEO-founder duo, Killian McDermott, added: “Fusion is accelerating the building of its global boutique M&A and specialty insurance services group. Katie and Michael, with their leading expertise and strong partnerships in the ecosystem, both enabled by applied data & tech capabilities, are ideally positioned to fill the M&A and specialty insurance risk protection gap in the global small to mid-market segments and to drive the digitisation of specialty insurance, globally.
