FOIL sector focus team expands scope to keep up with technological change
The Forum of Insurance Lawyers (FOIL), a member organisation representing defendant lawyers and self-insured organisations, has expanded its technology and cyber liabilities sector focus team's remit to include insurers’ and law firms’ use of technology in claims handling, as well as claims law related to cyber cover and digital processing.
The move will allow the sector focus team to stay at the cutting edge and effectively respond to the fast-evolving technology changing the shape of risk and liability in the market.
FOIL has also appointed Simon Murray, partner in the connected services division of global legal business DWF, as chair of the technology and cyber liabilities sector focus team.
Commenting on the new direction of the technology and cyber liabilities sector focus team, Murray, said: "Insurance products flowing from the use of technology, along with the digitisation of insurers' offerings, are two of the biggest change agents in the industry at present and will continue to be over the coming decades.
"Similarly, the application of technology in legal services is reshaping the business of law. FOIL have repurposed this Sector Focus Team with a view to having a strong voice for insurance lawyers in this vital practice area, coupled with valuable insight for FOIL members' clients.”
To relaunch the Sector Focus Team, FOIL will be holding an event with a panel discussion on the ethics of AI, to be held at the Chartered Insurance Institute on Lombard Street, London with speakers from across the industry. The event will be held on January 21 2020 between 8.00am and 11.00am.
