Everest Re swoops on AIG to tap growing accident and health market
Bermuda-based Everest Re Group has tapped a senior AIG leader as it looks to capitalise on increasing demand for innovative accident and health solutions in the market. The appointee will succeed Everest Reinsurance veteran Lou Monteagudo, who is retiring in December after 26 years with the company.
Shawn Austin (Pictured) will join the re/insurer as senior vice president, head of accident and health for North America. He will be based in New York and report directly to Jim Williamson, Everest Group COO and head of reinsurance.
Bringing 25 years of experience to his new role, Austin will lead strategy development and execution for accident and health in North America. He will be responsible for expanding the company’s products and services within the accident and health market.
Prior to joining Everest, Austin served as head of AIG’s North American accident and health business where he oversaw the entire portfolio. During his tenure, Austin held various leadership roles of increasing responsibility, including senior positions at Liberty Mutual, most recently serving as senior vice president leading the distribution and marketing of the company’s start-up global accident and health business.
Austin is a licensed broker in property, casualty, life, health and accident and serves as board member and governance chair for the Prospect Park Alliance and as board member of the Atlantic Yards Community Development Corp.
Williamson said: “Shawn is the most recent example of our deep investment in best-in-class talent at Everest. Shawn’s strong leadership skills and demonstrated track record building new businesses enable us to capitalize on increased market demand for innovative accident and health solutions.”
He added: “On behalf of the company, I want to thank Lou for his leadership and contributions to the A&H business and wish him all the best ik his retirement.”
