Delegates at SIRC to firm relationships
Insurers, reinsurers and brokers from all over the world attend the Singapore International Reinsurance Conference (SIRC) for a variety of reasons—but the principal one is to reaffirm relationships with existing clients in a relaxed environment.
That is the conclusion of an online poll conducted by Intelligent Insurer ahead of the 14th SIRC, which asked readers about their main reason for attending the conference. Some 49 percent said it was to reaffirm relationships with existing clients in a relaxed environment.
“Having most of your conversations with clients over the phone or via video messaging is not ideal for healthy business relationships. Nothing beats face-to-face,” said one respondent.
Another respondent added: “A lot of my business partners and clients congregating in one place is always good and makes getting real business done much easier.”
The second most popular reason, at 35.4 percent, was to negotiate with clients in relation to the year-end renewals.
“I am glad SIRC will be on an annual basis from this year onwards,” one of our readers said. “It provides a fantastic environment to speak with our clients and have these critical discussions around renewals.”
Finally, 15.6 percent of respondents said they attend SIRC to meet new people and seek new clients.
One said: “I have been coming to SIRC for many years now and it is always nice to see fresh faces and new business.”
Other respondents gave slightly different answers as to why they come to SIRC.
“Sometimes meetings can be a bit too brief and not much real business gets done,” said one reader. “However, there can be a lack of transparency in the Asian reinsurance markets and I enjoy keeping up with market trends at the various sessions.”
