CNA hires Hartford SVP for new worldwide P&C claim role
US-based commercial insurance provider CNA has appointed Robert Thomas to fill the newly-created position of senior vice president, claim analytics, finance and operations within the company's worldwide property and casualty (P&C) claims unit.
Most recently, Thomas served as senior vice president and chief P&C actuary at The Hartford. He began his career in 1994 as a specialty lines actuary.
Since then, he has held a wide variety of roles with increasing responsibility including pricing, product management, claims and reserving (including runoff and mass tort), capital attribution, business intelligence and predictive model teams supporting pricing, underwriting and claims.
In his new role at CNA, Thomas will be responsible for all aspects of CNA's claim analytics, finance and operations areas, including working closely with the company's commercial, specialty and international businesses and corporate functions.
Thomas will report to Andrew Pinkes, executive vice president of worldwide P&C claim.
"As a company, we are focused on building a disciplined underwriting culture, maximizing our operational effectiveness, institutionalizing collaboration, and improving overall performance by enriching the feedback mechanisms between Claim and Underwriting with sophisticated analytics and data insights," Pinkes said.
"Rob is an extremely skilled insurance professional who is highly regarded for his breadth of knowledge and expertise, including using data and analytics to improve decision making and performance. Under Rob's leadership, CNA will continue to build upon our claim analytics foundation and utilize his experience to improve operations and company performance."
