Chaucer promotes 20-year veteran to head of global reinsurance
Specialty Lloyd’s insurance group Chaucer has promoted a 20-year company veteran to head up its global reinsurance book of business, which it claims has grown “steadily” by 120% across all major lines and is poised for further growth.
Chris Baker has been appointed as head of global reinsurance, responsible for overseeing all lines of reinsurance business and territories.
Baker has been with Chaucer for almost 20 years, joining in 2004 as a marine and energy reinsurance underwriter. In 2016, he was appointed head of specialty reinsurance before being promoted to head of international and specialty reinsurance in 2020. Baker is a charted insurer and recently served as deputy chairman of the LMA marine reinsurance committee.
Chaucer said that over the last five years it has steadily grown its reinsurance book by 120% across all major lines, delivering on its long-term growth plan. The Chaucer Group GPW increased from $1.3 billion in 2018 to $2.4 billion in 2022.
Nicola Stacey, chief underwriting officer at Chaucer, said: “I would like to congratulate Chris on his well-earned promotion, and I am delighted that he has accepted this new challenge. Chris has played an integral role over the years in developing Chaucer’s reinsurance strategy. He has been a key player in ensuring the service we provide to brokers and clients is second to none. His deep understanding of our business and risk appetite will be critical to our ongoing development as a leading global (re)insurance group.”
Baker added: “Leading Chaucer’s high-performing global reinsurance team is an exciting opportunity and I look forward to extending our value proposition to brokers and clients. Working with such an accomplished and collegiate team has been a huge privilege and I’m very much looking forward to helping further develop Chaucer’s reinsurance portfolio.”
