Carbon Underwriting reveals key hire from MS Amlin
Specialist independent managing general underwriter (MGU) Carbon Underwriting has unveiled a key hire from MS Amlin as part of its strategy to evolve as a technology-driven MGU and Lloyd’s Syndicate.
Hugo Bashall joins the company as head of operations.
Bashall began his insurance career at MS Amlin, performing a number of roles across operations and strategy, including establishing and running an office overseas. His most recent role before joining Carbon was as head of operations for MS Amlin’s reinsurance business unit.
Prior to working at MS Amlin, Bashall was an analyst with Advanced Power, a privately owned company that develops and manages power generation and related infrastructure projects throughout Europe and North America.
Nick Tye (pictured), chief executive of Carbon, said: “It is extremely gratifying that we continue to attract talent of the calibre of Hugo to the Carbon family. Carbon is maturing as a global business, and one which is highly-efficient, operationally resilient and able to adapt swiftly and nimbly for the benefit of our partners. New technologies such as our proprietary technology platform, Graphene, allow us to provide superior data analysis and management to our coverholders while giving us deep insights into our clients’ businesses.
"We work as a tight team with an unrelenting focus on underwriting discipline and operational excellence, and I believe that we are strongly positioned to deliver sustained profitable growth in the future.”
Bashall commented: “The Carbon business model is genuinely game-changing and the excellent team here has achieved considerable success in a short space of time. I’ve been particularly impressed with the scope of Carbon’s ambitions and the team’s clear ability to achieve what they set out to do.
"It is a truly collaborative culture across each discipline within the business and I’m really looking forward to sharing my experiences and insights from the industries I’ve worked in and applying them to the successful strategy and operational excellence that Carbon is on track to achieve.”
