Canopius plucks 20-year Faraday veteran for casualty reinsurance expansion

Global specialty re/insurer  Canopius Group has recruited a senior London market treaty underwriter from Faraday Syndicate amid a suite of hires to expand its direct and reinsurance casualty proposition.

Philip Weston joins Canopius as casualty treaty underwriter. He will report to Paul Western, head of US casualty treaty, who joined Canopius in June 2022.

Weston has 30 years of London market experience in both international and North American casualty treaty reinsurance business. He joins Canopius after more than 20 years at Faraday Syndicate, where he was most recently head of international casualty.

His appointment follows that of David Mutton as casualty underwriter in the newly launched Melbourne office in March.

Western said: “Philip joins at a critical juncture in Canopius’ growth, as we continue to scale our casualty reinsurance offering. His skillset and extensive network of relationships, grown over a successful, 30-year career in the London Market, complement those of our existing team.
