Canopius appoints reinsurance Europe head from Emirates Re
Specialty re/insurer Canopius has appointed Stephan Ott as its new head for Continental Europe, reinsurance.
Ott was most recently chief underwriting officer for Emirates Re and has held various senior underwriting positions in his career, particularly in Germany and the Middle East.
“Stephan is a highly experienced, analytical and forward-thinking industry professional and we are delighted he is joining the team,” said Jamie Wakeling, chief underwriting officer reinsurance. “His proven track record of providing ideas and solutions to insurers and reinsurers and his long-standing client relationships make Stephan the ideal person to drive our business forward in Continental Europe. Our focus continues to be on an honest and consistent approach, underlying our desire to achieve the best solutions for our clients at all times,” Wakeling added.
Canopius offers its clients and brokers capacity across most of the major treaty reinsurance classes of business. The reinsurance team provides global access through its home at Lloyd’s and network of offices in California, New York, Bermuda, Dublin, Zurich and Singapore.
Canopius became a privately owned independent company earlier in the year.
In September 2017, a private equity consortium led by Centerbridge Partners, and including the private investment firm Gallatin Point Capital, revealed plans to acquire Sompo Canopius for $952 million.
