BMS Re attracts strategic hire from Marsh to expand Caribbean fac
Specialist re/insurance broker BMS Group has made a strategic hire from Marsh Latin America to expand its facultative presence in the Caribbean region.
Germán Torres-Ortíz (pictured) joins the broker as managing director and head of Caribbean facultative business for BMS Re Latin America and Caribbean (LAC). Based in Miami, he will report to Aidan Pope, CEO and executive chairman for LAC at BMS Re.
Torres-Ortíz joins BMS Re from his most recent role as a senior vice president at Carpenter Marsh Fac Re Latin America. Prior to that, he spent seven years with Assurant in a leadership role, developing new products and conducting feasibility studies across multiple markets in the region. Torres-Ortíz also held several senior roles at AIG, including spending four years in Chile as commercial lines director, spearheading significant annual growth and profitability.
Pope said: “It is an absolute pleasure to welcome Germán to our regional team. We value not only his excellent leadership skills, but also his contacts in the Caribbean and his knowledge of large and complex risks, which combines well with our worldwide strategy of specialization and outstanding client service. Germán is an innovative and passionate individual, whose consistent drive for excellence will be invaluable to our clients in the region.”
Torres-Ortíz added: “This is an excellent time to be joining BMS Re, who are demonstrating significant growth globally. The team is extraordinarily entrepreneurial, taking consistent efforts to identify and capitalize on the many and varied opportunities that lie within the region. I welcome the opportunity to maximise the BMS Re's capabilities as an independent specialist reinsurance broker, and to working as a team to achieve our collective goals.”
