Beazley boosts European growth with Aon and Chubb hires

Specialist insurer Beazley has strengthened its international specialty lines teams across Europe with a series of hires from Aon, Chubb and Tokio Marine, among others.

Three financial lines underwriters, who will report to Lorena Segovia, financial lines regional manager for continental Europe, and international specialty lines claims manager, have joined Beazley's European teams. They will allow the company to offer local financial lines underwriting expertise in France, Germany and Italy and a financial lines claims service across continental Europe. The move follows the launch of Beazley's financial lines business in Spain in October 2017. In 2017 Beazley established its continental European specialty lines hub in Barcelona.

Lorena Segovia, financial lines regional manager for continental Europe, said: "We have exciting plans for growth across Europe. Our latest appointments, all of whom are highly regarded and have an excellent understanding of their respective markets, allow us to extend our presence and deliver local service combined with exceptional expertise to brokers and clients across the region. We will be adding to the teams during 2018 as we continue to expand Beazley's specialty lines business in Europe."

Ute Falkenbach has joined Beazley's Munich-based team, responsible for developing a portfolio of business across the German market. She has over 10 years of experience in financial lines, both as underwriter and broker, most recently at Aon Risk Solutions. In Germany, Beazley's underwriters are based in Munich, Hamburg and Bremen and offer cyber-breach and M&A transaction liability insurance as well as treaty reinsurance and a wide variety of insurance solutions for small businesses.

Agnès Sbiera will be joining Beazley's Paris office in February 2018 to develop the French portfolio. She joins from Chubb where she held various roles including financial lines underwriter, PI & cyber underwriter and head of sales for Paris and Centre regions. Prior to Chubb, Sbiera underwrote a portfolio of D&O and Crime business at Axa following three years at Marsh in Paris. Beazley has had a local presence in the French market for 11 years. Sbiera will work alongside colleagues who underwrite cyber, professional liability, terrorism, political risks, credit risks, aviation, space and treaty reinsurance.

Matteo Segalini will be based in the Barcelona hub, primarily focused on the Italian market. He joins Beazley from EXIN group where he was a casualty and specialty insurance underwriter, specialising in wholesale distribution for financial lines. Segalini spent more than three years as an underwriter at Tokio Marine HCC before moving to EXIN.

Segalini's appointment brings the total number of underwriters based in Beazley's Barcelona hub to four, responsible for developing business in selected markets in continental Europe and supporting the French and German financial lines teams.

Finally, Eva Villarrubia Guba has been appointed claims manager for Beazley's Continental European and Latin American financial lines teams and will also be based in Barcelona. Villarrubia has significant experience as senior claims counsel in claims management and moves from Tokio Marine HCC.
