AXA XL names Luis Prato chief underwriting officer for UK entities

AXA XL insurance has appointed Luis Prato as new chief underwriting officer (CUO) for UK legal entities, Catlin Underwriting Agencies (CUAL) and XL Catlin Insurance Company UK (XLCICL).

Prato will be responsible for developing core underwriting strategies and optimising product offering and profitability for both CUAL and XLCICL. He will take up his new role in addition to his responsibilities as insurance active underwriter for Syndicate 2003 and regional specialty leader for the UK & Ireland.

Previously, Prato has served in several senior roles at Catlin, AEGIS London, Allied World Insurance Company, and Zurich Global Energy.

CUAL is a managing agent at Lloyd's. It manages Syndicate 2003, which underwrites a full range of property, casualty, marine, aviation and other specialty coverages.

XLCICL offers property and casualty insurance and reinsurance products, primarily in the UK and Europe.

Paul Greensmith, CEO of CUAL & XLCICL, said: “I am delighted that Luis is taking on the role of CUO for UK legal entities. He has built up a strong reputation both within AXA XL and the wider insurance market, and I have every confidence he has exactly the right experience and credentials to fulfil this role.

“The fact that AXA XL was able to fill this position internally is a testament to the talent we have within AXA XL and the opportunities available for advancement.”
