Assurant names chief legal officer
US-based insurer Assurant has appointed Jay Rosenblum to the role of chief legal officer.
Rosenblum joined Assurant in 2019 as senior vice president, government relations and regulatory affairs, and has been acting as co-interim chief legal officer since February. He will continue to report directly to Alan Colberg, Assurant president and CEO and serve on the company’s management committee.
Rosenblum will lead Assurant’s global legal department, including compliance, government relations, regulatory affairs and other legal matters affecting the company. In his new role, he will serve as a key advisor to the Assurant board of directors and oversee corporate governance matters.
Greg DeChurch, senior vice president, will continue in his capacity as deputy general counsel and Mariana Wisk, vice president and corporate counsel, has been appointed corporate secretary. Wisk will act as a liaison to the board of directors and shareholders, advising and engaging on corporate governance matters. Both will report to Rosenblum.
Rosenblum joined Assurant in June 2019 from Guardian Life Insurance Company of America, where he served as chief human resources officer after being promoted from his role as senior vice president of government affairs. Prior to Guardian Life, Rosenblum was senior vice president of government affairs and associate general counsel at The Hartford Financial Services Group and director, legislative and regulatory policy at Ernst & Young. Previously, he held various positions in the US Department of Labor and The White House.
“I am pleased to elevate Jay to the top legal role for our company,” said Colberg. “In a very short period of time, he has proved himself to be an invaluable strategic and legal resource to our business across the world. His varied background has enabled him to quickly assess and address issues from different perspectives that best align our business priorities with government and regulatory guidelines.”
