Arcus hires James from Markel as NA property treaty head
Arcus Syndicate 1856, which is managed by Barbican Managing Agency, has appointed Nick James as underwriting manager for North America property treaty.
James joins Arcus 1856 from Markel International where he was managing director, property treaty, having joined the firm in 2011. Prior to that, he was a property treaty underwriter at Ace Tempest. His career also includes 10 years in the broking sector working at both Aon and Guy Carpenter as an international property treaty broker.
Adrian Gfeller, managing director of Arcus 1856, said: “We are delighted to announce Nick’s appointment. He brings over 20 years of experience in the property treaty reinsurance sector. Having worked both as an underwriter and broker during that time, he has great technical knowledge coupled with a clear understanding of the needs of brokers and insureds.”
