Aon names new global portfolio broking leader
Broker Aon has appointed Andrew Matson as leader of its newly formed global portfolio broking team within the reinsurance solutions business.
The global portfolio broking team matches cedants seeking additional and/or specialist capacity with carriers with a strategic appetite to diversify their current risk profile and gain access to non-correlating risks. It specialises in facilities such as Marlin, Landmark, and Pegasus.
Under Matson’s leadership, the team will work alongside Aon’s newly formed carrier solutions group, led by Karl Hennessy. Matson will continue to report to reinsurance solutions’ UK CEO Nick Frankland.
The global portfolio broking team will deliver insights into carrier portfolio appetite, guidance on creative treaty structures, and access to diverse sources of risk capital.
“We have enjoyed considerable success pioneering portfolio solutions on behalf of clients and carriers in recent years and Andrew’s appointment reflects both the strong demand and importance that this area of our business commands,” said Hennessy, CEO of Aon’s carrier solutions group.
The global portfolio broking team services Aon’s proprietary managing general agents (MGA) and has also assisted third party MGAs to shape multi-line capacity arrangements designed to align the interests of the carrier and MGA, while applying technology and treaty structure.
Frankland commented: “Re/insurer distribution channels and the traditional value chain are becoming increasingly disrupted, and clients are demanding access to a wider range of risk and capital. The Global Portfolio Broking team has positioned itself to create multi-class, geographically diverse re/insurance solutions that create opportunities across Aon’s client base.
"These opportunities can serve to bolster existing capital availability, market relationships and income streams, or provide entirely new opportunities for growth, depending on individual risk appetite. In this way, Global Portfolio Broking is helping to create more robust organisations through optimising capital opportunities for Reinsurance Solutions’ clients’ books of business.”
