Aon bolsters financial institutions practice with senior HSBC hire
Re/insurance broker Aon has boosted its financial institutions (FI) capabilities with a senior hire from HSBC.
Pete Rutherford (pictured) joins Aon as enterprise client leader for FI in the UK. He will report to Richard Phelps, head of financial institutions for the UK and EMEA.
In his new role, Rutherford will help build key client relationships for Aon and further strengthen its leading financial institutions practice.
He has over 25 years of financial institutions experience, with sector expertise in banking, asset management, life companies, and insurance. He joins from HSBC, where he served as managing director, head of EMEA insurance, and UK bank coverage, responsible for managing key global clients. Rutherford began his career at Capital Bank, and he has held several senior positions at Standard Life (now Abrdn), Clydesdale Bank, Albannach Financial Management, and The Royal Bank of Scotland.
Michelle Mason, head of enterprise clients, UK, said: “We are delighted that a professional of Pete’s calibre has joined our team, which is a testament to our sustained growth in FI and ability to attract senior leadership as we continue to invest in addressing the evolving needs of our clients. His significant experience will help us deepen existing client relationships as we help them shape better decisions, whilst also creating new opportunities to help organisations navigate emerging risks. We are pleased to welcome Pete to Aon.”
Rutherford commented: “ Aon already has a strong reputation as a leader in the Financial Institutions space and, in an ever more complex and interconnected global operating environment, has an important role to play in delivering advice and solutions to organisations across the sector. I am excited to join the firm and look forward to working closely with Richard and the team.”
