AmTrust Europe shuffles board with new appointments

AmTrust Europe Limited (AEL), a subsidiary of  AmTrust Financial Services, has bolstered its board with two new appointments, as it looks to pursue growth in key lines of business.

Andrew Bulley and Peter Goddard will join  AEL's board, following regulatory approval.

Bulley has been approved as the chair of  AEL's board and chair of its Remuneration and Nomination Committee, replacing Robert Stansbury following his retirement.

Bulley joined AmTrust last year as chair of  AEL's Risk and Compliance Committee. Prior to AmTrust, he served as a partner in Deloitte's EMEA Centre for Regulatory Strategy, where he was responsible for monitoring and advising on strategic, regulatory, sectoral, business model, governance, risk and capital management, and conduct issues. Before that, he was the director of Life Insurance Supervision at the Bank of England's Prudential Regulation Authority (PRA). In addition to directing the day-to-day prudential supervision of the UK life insurance sector, he led all aspects of Solvency II implementation within the UK. Bulley spent some 15 years with the Financial Services Authority (FSA), latterly as the head of major insurance groups. In this remit, he led the FSA Department responsible for the supervision and business model analysis of the UK's major international insurance groups. He was a member of the project board overseeing the implementation of Solvency II/IMAP in the UK and was involved in all aspects of the UK's move to "Twin Peaks" financial services regulation.

Goddard joined  AmTrust earlier this year as an independent non-executive director and will replace Bulley as chair of  AEL's Risk and Compliance Committee, following regulatory approval. Goddard is a seasoned director with over 30 years of experience across the international insurance and reinsurance industry (Property and Casualty and long-term business) including Lloyd's. Most recently, he was the chief legal and compliance officer for Unum UK (an employee benefits provider), where he was responsible for integrated legal, risk and compliance activities across Europe. Previously his remits included senior independent non-executive director, chair of the Audit Committee and chair of the Risk Committee for ProSight Specialty Managing Agency, an integrated Lloyd's Vehicle of ProSight US. He was also with Brit Insurance for some 10 years as managing director, Europe with prior roles including commercial director and group secretary.

Angel Mas, CEO of  AEL and managing director of AmTrust International specialty business unit, said: "I am delighted with Andrew's appointment as Chair of  AEL's Board and with Peter's addition to the Board. We continue to benefit from Andrew's broad regulatory and industry sector experience, which has made him a hugely valuable addition to the Board. We will also benefit immensely from Peter's knowledge of the market, underwriting and distribution expertise as we continue to pursue growth in our key lines of business."
