AmTrust bolsters board with former Canopius/Brit/Allianz leaders

AmTrust International, an  AmTrust Financial Services multinational insurance subsidiary offering niche solutions to businesses and their customers, has appointed three new board members to its international business. The executives previously held top leadership roles at Canopius, Brit and Allianz.

The AmTrust Europe Limited (AEL) board has named Nigel Meyer as independent non-executive director (INED), chair of the audit committee and Whistleblowing Champion.

Meyer is an experienced senior executive and qualified Chartered Accountant with broad experience of leading large teams across a variety of functional disciplines. Previous roles have included group chief financial officer at Canopius Group and group chief operating officer at Brit Insurance. In both roles, Meyer was a member of the group executive and held board positions for a number of regulated companies. Before these roles, he held senior finance positions at RSA Insurance and Aviva. Meyer is also an independent non-executive director of First Central Insurance Management and Argenta Syndicate Management.

Peter Farrell has joined AmTrust International Underwriters DAC, as chief financial officer and head of investments and also joins the board of AmTrust International Underwriters DAC (AIU) in Dublin following local regulatory approval.

Farrell brings more than 20 years of experience in the insurance and general financial services sectors. In his previous role at Allianz Worldwide Care, Farrell was responsible for accounting and reporting for global international health and life insurance business. Prior to Allianz, he held senior positions within AXA and Allied World Assurance Europe.

The AIU board has also confirmed the appointment of Uma Baska as independent non-executive director (INED), and member of the AIU Audit Committee following local regulatory approval.

Baska is a highly experienced general insurance actuary with more than 20 years advising large insurance companies. Previous roles have included PWC, EY & Zurich Financial Services, where Baska built an international career in London, Zurich and Sydney, solving commercial, financial and actuarial challenges requiring interactions with demanding boards.

Andrew Bulley, chair of the AEL Board, said, "I welcome Nigel to the AEL Board. His substantial and highly relevant experience will be an asset to the Board going forward."
