AIG's Talbot Underwriting appoints new chief financial officer

Talbot Underwriting, a subsidiary of American International Group, has appointed Catherine Barton as new chief financial officer (CFO).

Barton will also be appointed to the Talbot Board, subject to regulatory approval, and succeeds Nigel Wachman who retires from Talbot in September 2020, after 20 years’ service.

Barton began her career with Bacon & Woodrow, becoming a fellow of the Institute of Actuaries in 1999 before being made partner at Deloitte in 2005.

Barton also held the role of partner within the general insurance actuarial team of Ernst & Young. Most recently, she was commercial and finance director of the UK Bupa business from 2015 to 2017 and general manager for Bupa Dental Care in 2018. Since 2017 she has also been a non-executive director and chair of the Audit Committee of Sabre Insurance Group.

David Morris, acting chief executive officer and syndicate active underwriter at Talbot, said: “I’m delighted that Catherine is joining Talbot as our CFO. With her broad industry experience, developed in various roles, she will bring new perspectives as a member of our leadership team.”

Barton added: “With its established positioning in the Lloyd’s market, and more recently as part of AIG, Talbot has a strong foundation from which to deliver growth and channel innovation in its chosen insurance markets. I’m excited to be joining David and his team and to being part of the next stage of Talbot’s development.”
