3M seeks $1.6bn from insurers to plug $6bn product liability deal

US manufacturing giant 3M is pursuing $1.6 billion from its insurers to help plug the gap on a $6 billion settlement signed and designed to put paid to damage claims on military earplugs, top corporate officials told an investor call.
