Allianz appoints new alternative risk transfer leader in Americas
Allianz Global Corporate & Specialty (AGCS) has appointed a new permanent regional head of its alternative risk transfer (ART) business in the Americas.
Thomas Houlihan will lead AGCS’ ART division in the region. Based in New York, he will report to Grant Maxwell (pictured), global head of alternative risk transfer.
Houlihan has been serving in this role on an interim basis since May 2021 as ART refocused its risk appetite and strategy targeting scalable innovation for corporate clients with an emphasis on structured insurance (including reinsurance for captives) and fronting (for captives and other corporates).
Allianz said Houlihan has been instrumental in executing the new strategic direction in the Americas while improving underwriting and servicing processes, increasing visibility with brokers and clients and collaborating with other business divisions.
He joined AGCS in May 2014 as an executive underwriter in liability and previously was Northeast team leader and regional practice group leader for construction, liability national accounts before joining ART in January 2020. Prior to AGCS, Houlihan held positions at Allied World Assurance, The Navigators Group and Arch Insurance Group.
“Thomas has certainly hit the ground running and already made significant inroads as our new ART leader for the Americas region,” said Maxwell. “He is most deserving of attaining this role on a permanent basis, and we all look forward to his continued success and the prospects for continued growth of our line of business across North America going forward.”
