Canopius ramps up distribution leadership for growth in top markets
Global specialty and P&C re/insurer has strategically hired new heads of distribution for the US, UK, and Bermuda markets to pursue fresh growth opportunities and strengthen ties with brokers and partners.
Uwe Schoberth has been appointed as head of distribution for the US and Bermuda, and Matthew Crane as head of UK distribution.
Schoberth and Crane will collaborate closely on Canopius’ distribution strategy and clear points of access and lines of communication for Canopius’ partners in both markets.
The pair will assume their newly created roles and join the Canopius US and UK executive committee, respectively.
Schoberth and Crane are tasked with elevating Canopius’ relationships with its global brokers, regional distribution partners and strategic clients, supporting the business as it looks to realise new growth opportunities.
Schoberth’s responsibilities will include fostering effective communication between clients and underwriters and ensuring partners are well-versed in Canopius’ extensive expertise and capacity. Schoberth will also strategically optimise business opportunities in areas where Canopius holds a competitive advantage.
Schoberth has over 30 years of experience in the insurance sector. He joins Canopius having most recently served as chief distribution officer at Joyn Insurance, and having previously held leadership roles at Lloyd’s as well as other US-based organisations.
Crane has nearly two decades of senior market experience. He joins Canopius most recently from PIB Group where he was CEO of Q Underwriting. Previously, he spent 15 years at QBE, where he progressed to managing director UK and Ireland. Following from this, he served as CEO of AMWINS Global Risks where he oversaw the business’ London and Lloyd’s market, Europe, Asia and LatAm operations.
Lisa Davis, chief executive officer, US, and Bermuda, stated: "Uwe Schoberth’s appointment underscores our unwavering commitment to excellence in the U.S. markets. We will leverage his extensive experience to achieve our ambitious goals, deepen relationships with brokers and distribution partners, and solidify our standing as a key player in the industry."
Mark Newman, UK chief executive officer of Canopius, said: “To continue the great momentum we are building, and to further realise our ambitions in the UK market, it’s important that we further deepen our relationships with our broking and distribution partners. By simplifying access to our syndicate’s capacity, and helping our partners understand and value our full product suite and expertise we can unlock additional new and profitable growth in areas where we have clear strengths.
“Matthew is the ideal hire to help us do this. He brings an exceptional track record of spearheading growth and is renowned throughout the UK market for his expertise.”
Schoberth commented: "I am thrilled to join Canopius and contribute to strengthening our presence in the U.S. market. The company's dedication to innovation and client-focused solutions aligns with my values, and I look forward to collaborating with the team to achieve continued success."
Crane said: “The opportunities available to Canopius are immense. The quality of the underwriting and claims teams is second to none and I am looking forward to working with them to strengthen the company’s presence in the UK.”
