Canopius grows West Coast US marine with former CNA / Allianz talent
Global specialty re/insurer Canopius has strengthened its US marine team with former Allianz talent as it drives a West Coast expansion.
Anthony Nguyen (pictured) has been appointed as vice president for underwriting. Based in California, Nguyen will oversee the development of the local offering and work with the broader US team. He will also assist Neetu Varghese in revising the Canopius US cargo strategy and report to John Ellis, head of US ocean marine.
Nguyen’s appointment follows a series of hires in the region as Canopius looks to expand and build a team on the West Coast, the firm said.
Nguyen has over 10 years of experience, most recently serving as an underwriting consultant director at CNA Insurance and previously as a senior underwriter at Allianz Global Corporate.
Ellis said: “Expanding our marine footprint and presence in the US, especially on the West Coast, is a critical part of our strategy for 2024. We need the right talent on board to help us do that, and with his extensive experience and network in California specifically, Anthony is the perfect fit.”
Nguyen said: “Canopius is at a really interesting and exciting time in its growth journey. With a focus on a strategic expansion on the West Coast and a brilliant team, it was an opportunity to learn from some of the best in the business as well as help drive results to build on its already impressive 2023.
