Brown & Brown powers up C-suite for strategic growth and ‘tight grip on financials’

Insurance brokerage Brown & Brown has appointed a new retail chief executive officer and created a chief commercial officer role as part of its efforts to gain a “tight grip on the financials” and drive strategic growth in the segment.

Carolyn Callan has been appointed as CEO for the UK retail business.

Callan has over 21 years of broking and insurance experience. She joined the brokerage in 2023 as the managing director for retail. Previously, she held roles at Covéa Insurance, Worldpay, Towergate Insurance, Swinton Insurance, Premierline Direct, Alliance & Leicester and P&P Corporate Systems.

Additionally, Stuart Grieb has been appointed as the chief commercial officer for the UK retail business. In the newly created role, Grieb will retain his southern region leadership role as managing director of retail, while collaborating with the wider retail leadership team to optimise financial performance across the sector.

Grieb joined the brokerage from Willis Towers Watson (WTW) where he served as its head of insurance facilities, GB. His previous roles span Brightside Insurance, Towergate Insurance and Marsh & McLennan.

Mike Bruce, chief executive officer of Brown & Brown, said: “Since joining us last November, Carolyn has made a strong impact and is clearly the right person to lead us through our next phase of growth. Carolyn’s strategic leadership will help ensure we continue to deliver for our customers and create an environment of growth for our retail teammates.”

He added: “Stuart has a real focus on detail, good execution of profit drivers and a tight grip on the financials. We have untapped potential within the business that this new role will help us realise.”
