Amwins launches new transportation unit underwriting $250m+ in annual premium
Global specialty insurance wholesale broker Amwins has formed a new entity dedicated to the transportation space by merging two MGAs underwriting a combined $250 million+ in annual premium.
The Amwins Transportation Underwriters (ATU) and National Truck Underwriting Managers (NTUM) teams have merged into a single entity called Amwins National transportation underwriters (ANTU).
Justin Joyce, formerly president of NTUM, will lead the new ANTU binding unit. Joyce has spent his entire 20-year career working in transportation insurance.
As a single operating company, ANTU aims to provide clients with nationwide access to various binding markets and specialty transportation programmes. With almost 80 employees spread across eight locations, retail agents are expected to have access to transportation-certified underwriters with regional expertise for both fleet and non-fleet accounts.
ANTU’s specialty programmes unit - environmental transportation; freight broker liability and advantage - will continue to be led by their programme managers.
ATU was formed via various Amwins’ transportation insurance underwriting acquisitions, starting with Seaboard Underwriters in 2003. Amwins acquired the NTUM legacy unit in 2021.
Ryan Armijo, president, Amwins Underwriting, said: “ATU and NTUM have each been in this space for more than 40 years; they know transportation.”
“By combining these two well-respected brands, we can drive forward even greater impact on the industry through unparalleled market access and outstanding customer service.”
