Ardonagh sets leadership for Dutch broking arm in bid to create ‘powerhouse’

Ardonagh Group has unveiled the in-country management team for its Dutch broking arm, formed through the integration of local brokers Léons Group, Klap Verzekeringsmakelaar, and Classicus Private Insurance.

Fred Willemze has been appointed as new managing director of Klap, succeeding Jorg Roodbeen. Willemze has over 40 years of industry experience and has held senior positions in Marsh & McLennan companies. He will be responsible for leading business development for the specialist commercial lines insurance broker founded in 1854.

Roodbeen has been appointed chief acquisitions officer of Ardonagh Netherlands, responsible for driving the M&A process in the country. He will report to Des O’Connor, Ardonagh Global Partners chief investment officer in his new role.

Roodbeen has extensive experience in the Dutch market, having led and delivered operational strategies and acquisitions to boost Klap’s growth over his 25-year tenure.  Klap was acquired by Ardonagh in June 2023.

Sunny Léons, current chief executive officer (CEO) of Léons Group, will transition into the role of CEO at Ardonagh Netherlands, and report to Conor Brennan, Ardonagh global partners executive chairman.

Léons has helped grow the Léons Group over the past 43 years before joining forces with the Ardonagh Group since their entrance into the Netherlands in October 2022.

Dov Rychter, commercial director of Léons Group, will take on the role of managing director of Leons. He is expected to lead Léons’ expansion and develop the presence of the 73-year-old firm in the global insurance landscape.

Classicus Private Insurance will continue to be led by Bart-Jan Kastrop.

The appointments are subject to the customary regulatory approvals.

Brennan said: “We are grateful for Jorg’s and Sunny’s outstanding leadership over the past years in positioning Klap and Leons for long-term success. We are equally excited to welcome Fred, whose proven track record and strategic mindset will be invaluable in unlocking Klap’s next phase of growth in the Dutch insurance market.”

Léons added: “I was delighted to join Ardonagh from the inception of their exciting mission to establish a powerhouse in the Dutch market and I am proud of what we have achieved together. I look forward to continuing our collaborative partnership to expand our footprint and capitalise on emerging business opportunities, continuing to support Leons alongside the very capable leadership of Dov and the management team.”

O’Connor said: “Jorg’s deep knowledge of the Dutch market landscape will allow us to identify and execute on the best opportunities to drive growth and create value for our stakeholders and clients alike.  He will be invaluable to spearhead our efforts in this important region.”

Roodbeen commented: “It has been an immense privilege to lead Klap and I’m incredibly proud of what we’ve accomplished. With Fred’s vision and expertise, I know the company will continue to thrive. I’m excited to take on this new opportunity at Ardonagh Netherlands.”

Willemze said: “I am honoured and thrilled to lead Klap as its Managing Director. This company has a rich legacy, and I look forward to working with the talented team to drive growth and bring sustainable and innovative insurance products to customers across The Netherlands.”
